No matter how much we can sometimes find ourselves fighting routine and structure, we humans also crave predictability so much at the same time. About 4 years ago, I was inspired by Marie Kondo’s Netflix series “Tidying Up.” Her beautiful techniques, graceful presentations, and the intentional meaning behind all that we surround ourselves with would spark joy in the eyes of her viewers including myself. 4 years later and now with several children, I’ve found myself, yet again, being inspired by the change she has recently shared with the world - she’s decided to refocus her use of time from maintaining a perfect clean room to spending more time with her 3 young children. One can only imagine how hard it must’ve been to let go of the routine and structure she built her whole identify upon when these beautiful children entered her life.
When life is happening, it often happens quick with elements out of our control. In those moments, it is easy and completely normal to feel pressure, stress, confused, and over all dysregulated. Predictability can suddenly become a far distant memory as one tries to regain some sense of self again. In those moments, be encouraged that you are living an amazing opportunity to re-create, to be inspired, and to bring a spark of joy back into your life again. Now, some of those elements may look different in this new version of your life and that is OK. Another consideration is that perhaps this will be a short season for you or maybe even longer. If you do find that the stress is too much, seek help. Embrace the change by continuing to focus on the things that are most important to you.
